Secretary Role

Q:alliance is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic person to join their Board of Trustees as Secretary.

Q:alliance (also known as ‘Q’) is a registered charity that provides support, information and representation for the LGBTQ+ people who live, work and play in Milton Keynes and Bedford.

The Secretary plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective functioning of the organisation, and they are looking for someone who is passionate about LGBTQ+ rights and committed to driving positive change.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Meeting Coordination

· Schedule and organize Board meetings, ensuring quorum and compliance with legal requirements.

· Prepare and distribute agendas, minutes, and relevant documents in a timely manner.

· Maintain accurate records of Board decisions and actions.

 

Governance & Compliance

· Ensure Q:alliance operates within the legal and regulatory framework.

· Assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.

· Support the Board in fulfilling its legal and fiduciary responsibilities.

 

Communication and Correspondence

· Serve as a point of contact between the Board, staff, and external stakeholders.

· Manage official correspondence and maintain official records.

· Assist in drafting reports and communications on behalf of the organization.

 

Strategic Support

· Collaborate with fellow Trustees to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan.

· Contribute to discussions on the overall direction and impact of Q:alliance.

 

Qualifications:

· A strong commitment to the purpose and values of Q:alliance.

· Excellent organizational and administrative skills.

· Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.

· Familiarity with charity governance and compliance in the UK is a plus.

· Prior experience in a similar role or with a charity is preferred but not essential.

 

Time Commitment

This is a voluntary position with an estimated time commitment of approximately 4 hours per month. Board meetings are typically held monthly (virtually) on the 2nd Tuesday evening of each month.
