Major Grant Enhances Quality of Life for Senior Residents at Camphill MK

Camphill MK Communities have been awarded a £75,000 large strategic grant by MK Community Foundation to support their new capital expansion programme in Pennyland.

The development is designed to address the growing need to build more accessible, inclusive communities for current and future residents of Camphill MK.

The grant comes as a significant boost to Camphill MK Communities' capital project and will revolutionise their new building’s infrastructure and facilities, enabling the continuation of their high-quality care into the ageing population of their residents.

MK Community Foundation’s funding will specifically go towards enhancing accessibility within the new homes.

The project will play a pivotal role in supporting older residents and individuals with mobility and physical disabilities, supporting them to engage in essential personal care activities.

As part of the project, new hoists will be installed in select rooms, which will effectively prevent falls and injuries, whilst giving residents a greater level of dignity and comfort that would otherwise be impossible to achieve.

This project has been supported through MK Community Foundation’s Margaret Powell Fund, a generous legacy gifted by a local Sheep Farmer in the early 1990’s.

Her legacy supports organisations to deliver projects supporting the elderly, and people with disabilities across Milton Keynes.

On Thursday 1st June, The Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Countess Howe, Dame Ann Limb, High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, and Milton Keynes Major and Mayoress Mick and Mandy Legg marked the start of the capital expansion programme at Camphill MK.

Jake Geelan, Philanthropy Manager at MK Community Foundation was delighted to attend the breaking of the ground ceremony:

“It was a privilege to attend the ground-breaking ceremony at the Pennyland site – a huge milestone for the project following the impact of COVID-19. MK Community Foundation is incredibly proud to be supporting some of the accessibility elements of the project and we are so pleased that our funding will have a long-lasting impact on the lives of the residents at Camphill for generations to come.”

“We are thrilled to have achieved the milestone of our Ground Breaking day at our Michaels Akyre site and grateful for the generosity of MK Community Foundation. The Margaret Powell funds will support our aim to continue to care for our learning disabled residents as they live into old age and experience the same age related challenges of mobility and other physical frailties that we all may do at that time in our lives. The equipment will allow us to afford the same dignity of care that we might expect for ourselves or our loved ones where possible maintaining lifelong friendships and supportive relationships in still familiar surroundings”.
