Milton Keynes Cheerleading Academy
Thanks to our MK Community Foundation grant, we were able to keep our facility open when COVID regulations closed our doors for 2 months..
Who are Milton Keynes Cheerleading Academy and what do they do?
There are many misconceptions around cheerleading and MKCA have been tackling those in Milton Keynes for the last 19 years. They work hard to develop the athletic abilities of young people across the city from the age of 3, always prioritising the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of their cheerleaders. They work at grass root level right through to elite giving young people opportunities to stand out in the cheerleading world.
What support did Milton Keynes Cheerleading Academy need?
The pandemic was hard for most charities but with MKCA providing in-person physical activity, strict COVID restrictions forced them to close their doors for 2 months. Their multi-functional sporting facility relies on athletes coming through the door and taking part to operate, so with no athletes, there was huge financial strain. They needed to be supported to keep the facility open ready for when restrictions eased and they could welcome cheerleaders back.
What difference did our MK Community Foundation grant make?
MKCA used the grant from Milton Keynes Community Foundation to pay the rent needed to keep the gym open. The grant meant the financial pressure was eased and gave peace of mind to all the cheerleaders as they knew they could back just as soon as the restrictions allowed them to. MKCA could focus their efforts on supporting all their athletes in other ways through lockdown ensuring their wellbeing was priority even without in-person sessions.

What do real people say?
"MKCA has been a home away from home for us for many years, so when we were forced to follow lockdown regulations, we were wondering what would happen to the gym and whether we would be able to return once regulations had been lifted. This grant has given us the opportunity to still call the gym home and has allowed my child and many others to continue with the classes that make them happy"
