MHA

Supporting the Poverty and Disadvantage Fund

MHA is an independent UK member of Baker Tilly International and provider of audit, tax, consulting, and advisory services. We caught up with Liz Newall, Partner at MHA, to ask her about Milton Keynes and why they give back to it through their business membership.

What do you love about this city?

For me, it’s the sense of opportunity in Milton Keynes. It’s a growing city with a really interesting mix of established businesses and newer organisations, but it still has a strong local business community. People know each other, they work together and generally want the city to do well. I’ve worked here for many years, so it’s been great to see how Milton Keynes has developed and to have been part of that.

Why Milton Keynes Community Foundation specifically?

We’ve been part of the Milton Keynes business community for over 40 years, so it is important to us that we give something back to the area as we continue to grow here. The Community Foundation felt like a really good fit because they understand Milton Keynes and the organisations making a difference locally. They know where support is most needed, which means we can be confident our contribution will have a real impact.

What drew you to that fund over the others?

There are so many good causes in Milton Keynes, so for us it was really about where we felt our support could have the most impact. I liked the fact that the fund supports a wide range of organisations across the city rather than focusing on one particular area. It means our contribution can benefit different parts of the community, and that felt like the right fit for us.

What would you like Milton Keynes to look like in ten years?

I’d like Milton Keynes to carry on being somewhere that businesses want to come to, invest in and grow, but I also think it’s really important that the wider community benefits from that growth. There’s already a lot happening here and a real sense of opportunity. I’d love to see businesses continuing to work together and doing their bit to support the charities and organisations that make such a difference locally.
